Who should enroll in this program?

  • Those with a business background who would like to break in to the sport and fitness industry
  • Those who know they want to have a career in the sport and fitness industry but do not want to commit to a Master’s degree.

How long is the program?
The program can be completed in one calendar year.

How long is a course?
Each of the four online courses is one semester long (about 4 months).

In which semesters are the courses provided?
The courses are provided during the fall, spring, and summer.

What is the curriculum for the program?
The program consists of four 3-credit hour courses. Each course is 100% online. One course is provided each semester. For more information, please visit our Curriculum page.

Is this an online certificate program?
Yes! You can obtain the certificate by completing all of the four online courses.

What are the prerequisites?
Candidates seeking admission must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.60 or higher. Please visit our Admissions Information page for more information.

Do I have to take the GRE?
No. Neither the GRE nor the GMAT is required for admission.

What does my GPA have to be in order to be considered?
The minimum cumulative grade point average needed in order to be considered for any graduate program at the University of Houston is 2.60.

When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to apply for each semester is as follows:

  • Fall – May 1 at 11:59 PM
  • Spring – October 1 at 11:59 PM
  • Summer – March 1 at 11:59 PM

How much will it cost to complete the certificate program?
Tuition and fees will be the standard rate for graduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLASS). An estimate can be calculated here. Please note that fees for online classes will vary slightly.

Will I be automatically admitted into the M.A. in Sport and Fitness Administration program at UH after completing the certificate program?
No. You will not be automatically admitted into the M.A. program, but completion of the certificate program may increase your chance of admission.

Are classes transferrable?
Yes! All course credit may be transferred to any accredited institution that accepts them.

Can I work while enrolled in the certificate program?
Yes. The structure of one online course each semester gives you the flexibility to have a job while enrolled in this program. Each course only requires about 5-8 hours of effort per week.

I don’t have a sports background. Can I still apply?
Yes! We encourage those who have a business degree and want to break into sport and fitness management to apply.
