M.S. in Human Nutrition

The Human Nutrition graduate program provides its students with a comprehensive program of study which integrates theoretical and evidence based concepts with practical application of addressing individual, community, and population health and nutrition problems. The obesity epidemic, the changing face of healthcare, biomedical and technological advancements, the emerging emphasis on preventive medicine, longer lifespans, and the growing diversity of the United States population have made the field of Human Nutrition of critical importance.

Graduates of the program will seek employment in a variety of settings including local, city, state, and national public health departments and agencies; health care organizations; research centers and universities; corporate wellness; and private industry (e.g., food, fitness, health). Emerging topical issues within the program will include metropolitan revitalization through sport and urban fitness.

Note: This program does not provide the coursework or practical training to become a Registered Dietician. Students with that goal must complete an accredited bachelor's or post-baccalaureate program and meet the requirements outlined by The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). These options are offered by the Department of Health and Human Performance and you may click here for more information on HHP's undergraduate nutrition curriculum.
