"The University of Houston’s APhA-ASP Operation Diabetes Initiative has partnered with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to host their first annual Race For Control: 5K & Fitness Festival.
The event will be located at Lynn Eusan Park at the University of Houston on August 30, 2014 starting at 9:00 AM. The event is free of charge to all participants who wish to partake in the 5K race, Family Fun Mile or wh o wish to just attend the Fitness Festival. All proceeds are to benefit the ADA and our goal is to raise $2000 and have 300 people participate in the event. This event is a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. We will be accepting donations the day of the event as well as online on our race registration website. The Fitness Festival will include raffle prizes to raise money for the ADA, a host of vendors offering services that promote diabetes awareness and self-care (such as LA Fitness, In Fit Foods Vitamin Shoppe and more!), and free health screenings such as cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetic foot exams, periodontal disease counseling, BMI, and blood glucose screenings. Booths will also be set up that will counsel on diabetes management, answer diabetes medication questions and self-care/prevention techniques. Are you interested in coming out to support your College of Pharmacy? Register for free online today! Create a team on the website and get all your friends to run/walk the race with you! Enjoy the Fitness Festival and it's free giveaways after you are done! If you don't want to participate in the 5K or the Family Fun Mile, then come out and enjoy the Fitness Festival! If you cannot attend, but wish to make a donation to the ADA then you can use our website to do that as well! We thank you for your support in helping us to make this event a success!!
