On March 6, 2017, the BTI Institute hosted a visit by Dr. Susan Coller-Monarez, DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary (Strategy and Analysis) and Dr. Jason Ackleson, Director of Strategy, Office of Strategy, Plans, Analysis, and Risk.

During the visit, the DHS representatives were introduced to BTI Institute’s executive leadership and Thrust Leads.  Director Ioannis Kakadiaris provided an overview of the BTI Institute which included its mission, accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and the Institute’s potential value to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial agencies, non-profit organizations, and private sector corporations. Each of the Thrust Leads presented information on research projects in their respective areas.

In the discussion that followed, Dr. Susan Coller-Monarez stated that the DHS Centers of Excellence such as the BTI Institute are ideally positioned as interlocutors to help identify future problems with the ability to bring stakeholders together and effectively link the private sector business case to government agency responsibilities.
