Ditch Plastic Water Bottles for Chance to Win Prizes

BYOBUniversity of Houston students can help the environment and win prizes if they use their own personal reusable water bottles to stay hydrated the first week of classes.

The #BYOBottle program is the brainchild of the UH Office of Sustainability, which is encouraging everyone to stop using plastic water bottles that are used once and then thrown away.

Students – as well as faculty and staff – who take a photo of themselves the week of Aug. 24 using a reusable bottle can post it on Twitter or Instagram and tag @UHSustain to be entered into a prize drawing. The Office of Sustainability has numerous prizes it will be giving away, including gift bags, tote bags filled with school supplies, T-shirts and reusable utensils.

Those who use their own reusable bottles can refill them at the Water Monster filling stations, which will be temporarily stationed in different locations on campus. The bottles can also be filled at the UH2O stations that are inside many of the buildings across campus.

“This is a fun way for everyone to become aware of the impact that single-use plastic water bottles have on the environment,” said Sarah Kelly, program manager for the Office of Sustainability. “We also want students to stay properly hydrated, because it will be very hot that first week of school.”
