LUNCHEON AT UH TO HONOR, LEND SUPPORT
TO HOUSTON VETS
War can have a lingering effect on veterans and their loved ones.
To help them cope with war’s aftermath, a coalition of University
of Houston groups is hosting a free luncheon.
This event, which is free and open to veterans and families connected
with the university, will be held at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 20 on the
second floor atrium of UH’s A. D. Bruce Religion Center. The
goal of the luncheon is to show appreciation and support for veterans
and those with loved ones currently serving in the United States
military. It also will provide a forum to gather feedback on the
kinds of support needed by veterans and families of active duty
military personnel.
“We’re looking forward to meeting more veterans and
their family members,” said Allen Grundy, coordinator of UH’s
Veterans’ Services Office. “An event like this is not
only about giving back to those who have served but also about allowing
them to share ideas regarding their needs and how we can better
accommodate them as they return home and begin focusing on their
education.”
Under the leadership of the Veterans’ Services Office, the
UH groups co-sponsoring this event are the Center for Students with
DisABILITIES, Counseling & Psychological Services, University
Career Services and the Campus Ministers Association with support
from Staff Council.
These groups began meeting in January at the suggestion of Grundy,
who is a veteran himself, when he noticed the challenges faced by
fellow vets and their families. Future events and services will
be planned to lend further encouragement to former and current members
of the military.
To attend the Feb. 20 luncheon, RSVP by Feb. 16 to skglass@uh.edu.
