CONFERENCE ON THE FUTURE OF THE HOSPITALITY
INDUSTRY
BRINGS GRAD STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO UH
More than 275 hospitality graduate students from around the world
will converge at the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton
College of Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) to discuss the
future of the industry.
The 12th Annual Graduate Education and Graduate Student Research
Conference in Hospitality and Tourism is planned for Thursday, January
4 through Saturday Jan. 6 at the Hilton University of Houston Hotel.
Co-sponsored by the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the
Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the event will allow faculty,
staff and students to explore contemporary and future educational
and research issues of the industry.
“This prestigious event was inaugurated at UH, and we host
the conference every three years,” Carl Boger, associate dean
of academic programs for HRM, said. “Hong Kong Polytechnic
University is a great friend. Working with them ensures that this
forum will benefit the next generation of hospitality professionals.”
The dean of Hong Kong Polytechnic, Kaye Chon, is a former faculty
member at HRM.
More than 40 universities from 10 countries will be represented.
Twenty-six students from UH are expected to attend.
Among the topics to be discussed are: “Global Tourism Development”
and “Future Trends and Issues in the Service Industry.”
In addition, two panel discussions will consider the benefits of
research, academic and consulting careers in the industry. The conference
agenda is available at www.hrm.uh.edu/home.asp?PageID=577. A highlight
of the conference will be a presentation of scholarly papers written
by the students.
“The purpose of this conference is to give students a forum
to present their research, get suggestions and network with each
other,” Boger said.
