CASTING CALL: PERFORMERS NEEDED FOR NEW
PLAYS
FROM ANNUAL EDWARD ALBEE WORKSHOP
Open auditions for actors to perform in the upcoming Edward Albee
New Playwrights Workshop will be held Feb. 9-10 at the University
of Houston.
A variety of performers are needed for the six new plays that will
be presented at Stages Repertory Theatre in late April.
Actors and actresses older than 35 are especially encouraged to
audition. Those trying out are asked to prepare two pieces, of a
contrasting nature, and each no longer than two minutes. Performers
do not have to be students at the University of Houston to appear
in the plays.
Each year, Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist and UH professor Edward
Albee selects a group of intriguing new plays submitted to him for
development in workshop format. During a semester of preparation
on campus, the results come to life as full-fledged productions,
offering Houston audiences an uncommon theatrical opportunity. This
year, noted playwright Lanford Wilson, a recent addition the UH
School of Theatre faculty, is overseeing the workshop preparations.
Albee, however, will be on hand for the actual productions.
