Please consider this development opportunity as one that requires commitment from both participants and managers. Participants will achieve increasing levels of proficiency proportionate to time spent in language training.
Spanish for Healthcare Providers and Educators
Program focus is on the Spanish communication needs of clinical and patient education faculty, professionals, and staff. The training is built around the healthcare provider/patient relationship. The trainings integrate realistic situations and specialized vocabulary that healthcare professionals need to communicate with Hispanic patients and colleagues in the course of their daily work.
For example:
- Giving directions during clinical procedures
- Collecting medical information
- Asking and responding to questions
exchanging ideas and information on familiar topics in everyday situations
Proficiency
- Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4, designate increasing levels of proficiency and associated contact-hour requirements. Each level of training equals 32 hours (or one quarter of classroom instruction). Completion of Levels 1 through 4 equals 128 hours (or four quarters of instruction).
- Most participants in the Healthcare/Educator track will want to continue through at least Level 4 training.
- Business/Service track participants will want to plan for at least two levels (or more if their goals include more substantive communication).
