Interim Associate Vice President for Marketing & Communication and Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Marketing & Communication for the UH System
Richard has three decades of experience in print journalism and public relations. He joined the University of Houston in 2007, managing a staff of talented public relations professionals in the Office of Media Relations that works to enhance the University's image, reputation and visibility. In his expanded role, Richard will lead and manage a team of award-winning marketing and communication staff; UH’s institutional branding, marketing and advertising; internal and external publications; media outreach; public relations and issues management for UH and the UH System; presidential communications; the UH website, institutional brand identity, graphic standards and logo usage for UH and the UH System; creative and multimedia services.
Richard’s previous experience includes 16 years at the Office of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin, where he worked in media relations, managed and edited publications, and served as coordinator for internal communication. He also spent nine years as a reporter for the Beaumont Enterprise, covering a wide range of beats, including City Hall, federal and state courts, higher education and police. He has won numerous awards for writing and editing from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and Hearst Newspapers. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Lamar University in Beaumont.
